Ed also brought a framed up rudder assembly for a Leisure Bomber kit to demonstrate how he builds flight control systems. He showed how he uses a dremel tool with a circular saw blade, mounted in a drill press jig to precisely slot the rudder and fin for EZ hinges. The combined building tips took the crowd through almost all of the processes used to complete a model.
Showing building tools bought as well as hand-crafted, Ed Hamler demonstrated the way he builds with such high quality results. Ed uses CYA glue but not on balsa he will need to sand. His use of heavy blocks to square up the sides enables him to build a fuselage jig on the fly that is effectively as good as a custom-built one.
