Today, I finished laying up both the Stab and the elevator as the four pictures below show. This included bonding on the 1/4" square leading edge and adding the two 1/8" X 1/4" top spars, which really stiffens up the frame spanwise. I glued in all of the primary elevator ribs as you can see. In addition, I added 1/8" square diagonals to maintaining a straight trailing edge. After the structure is removed from the building board and the hinges are installed, the two center and two tip diagonals will be added.
This shows the completed lay up from the front.
This picture shows a close up of left stab tip. The thing I want to point is how the two 1/8" X 1/4" top spars have been carved away on the bottom to 1/8" tapering down to 3/32" at the end. This will allow these spars to be later bent down into a bow and glued into the inside edge of the spline tip.
This shows the right stab tip.
This shows the completed lay up from the rear.

This shows the completed lay up from the end.
My next step will be to remove the structure from the building board and continue finishing up the stab. This will include hinges, center section planking, and various other little details. Before the top of the stab center section is planked, the fuselage stab platform will be made and matched drilled to the six stab attachment plate holes............................Tandy |
