In response to my last Bomber construction report (8Bomber Horizontal Tail Framing), I received a message from Alfredo Herbon down in Argentina. He suggesting that with such a large elevator I should consider adding diagonal ribs. After thinking about it for a while, I decided I liked his idea. So this afternoon I drew up, cut out, and glued in the eight diagonal elevator ribs as shown at left. Thanks for the input Alfredo.............Tandy |
I sawed the tip spline through at the hinge line in order to separate the stab from the elevator.
I slipped the fin into the stab slot (fin construction to come later) and secured it with the three countersunk 2-56 Cap crews as shown below. Then I planked the top of the stab center section with 1/16" balsa using the inserted fin to set the proper slot width.

I removed the horizontal tail from the building board and added the end elevator doublers as shown below.
This shows the stab fin slot in the center section planking from the top

This shows the completed planking on the bottom of the stab center section.

This shows the completed stab tip with the integrated tip spline.
