SAM 27 Small Rubber Contest at Lakeville Road Flying Site July 21 Enjoyed Good Weather, Turnout
Dedicated to Old-Timer Modeling in all its forms: Free-Flight, R/C, Rubber, Power and Indoor flying with members from all over Northern California--and indeed, the world through our monthly newsletter: The Antique Flyer, ably edited by Steve Remington. SAM 27 has members of all ages and a very active Junior OT (Old Timer) program made possible by member Rocco Ferrari, an eighth-grade Science teacher and avid modeler who uses modeling to teach and motivate his Middle-School students. Many of SAM 27's members were active modelers in their youth which spanned the 30's and 40's and encompassed the "Golden Age" of modeling activity in the United States. They have stories and memories of the famous and near-famous from that era and are a unique resource for the club. Sam 27 invites you to join us for a fun, enjoyable time at our regular meeting held on the third Wednesday of the month at the Nova to Fire house on Thereto Avenue off Highway 37 at Black Point exit. The meetings are held in the Fire Department Training room in back of the main building. Guests are enthusiastically welcomed. Senior member of SAM 27 , Earl Hoffman (above) of Santa Rosa, California examines the framework of Ed Hamler's "Tomboy" fuselage, built for the 2005 SAM Champs in Henderson, Nevada. The Tomboy qualifies as a Nostalgia Model in the U.S. by virtue of it's 1950 creation date, while it is considered a "Vintage" design in the U. K. (Old Timer) because the U. K. SAM organization considers 1950 the cutoff date for it's Old Timer Model designs. Earl, 93 years young, is a dedicated modeler and still holds some Indoor Model records.
