Gustafson opens the gate to start Canvas
Falcon Day.
Enter over the cattle grid, pass the ancient barns. Just another mile to go. There is no better site for a Canvas Falcon meet than a grass roots club like Liberty Flyers. The airfields of the time were improvised from farmers' fields, and the canvas falcons never saw a hard surface runway. Probably would have caused a ground loop anyway. Andrew photo |

Tim Stingle hand starts, just like the old days. In fact hand starting is the easiest way with these big gas engines. The ignition timing of this 1/3 scale Camel is retarded way after Top Dead Center to prevent a dangerous backfire. Andrew Tickle photo |
NIEUPORT Superb surface texture. David Pippen's winning entry. Andrew Tickle photo |

THIS IS A BRITISH SOPWITH CAMEL! It was captured after landing behind enemy lines and repainted so that it would not be shot down while the German pilots evaluated it. Andrew Tickle photo |
