                RULE COMPARISONS

In Limited Altitude Launch an automatic altimeter switch shuts off the motor any time the plane exceeds 600ft. The motor may be stopped and restarted at any time before the pilot calls the "START" of the timed glide.

In ALES (Altitude Limited Electric Soaring) rules the motor is shut off automatically at the pre-selected altitude, or after 30 seconds, whichever is sooner. The timed glide starts at this moment.  In LAL there is no limit to the time before the pilot calls the "START" of the timed glide. Before this the motor may be restarted at will. After the "START" is called the motor may not be restarted without penalty.

In SAM Free Climb, Timed Glide (FCTG) the motor runs continuously, with no limit, until the pilot calls the "START" of the timed glide. In LAL the motor may be stopped and restarted at will until the "START" of the timed glide.

In SAM Limited Motor Run, (LMR) the motor is run for a maximum time (90 sec). In LAL the motor is run, stopped and restarted at will until the pilot calls the "START" of the timed glide.

In SAM Electric Texaco the motor may be stopped and restarted any time during the flight.  LAL is the same except that after the pilot calls the "START" of the timed glide the motor may not be restarted (without penalty)
