The Brooklyn Skyscrapers Model Airplane Club

Established in 1936, the Brooklyn Skyscrapers is one of the oldest model airplane clubs in the country. The club still has a large membership, although not one single member resides in the borough of Brooklyn, N.Y. The club has retained this name for two reasons, tradition and chutzpah! Tradition, because of the clubs origin. And chutzpah because ofthe clubs old battle cry, "Brooklyn voises da woild." Also known as the most active club in the northeast, the clubs members still travel to all parts of the country to compete in free flight model airplane contests. Today the Skyscrapers have members living in all parts of the United States, but the core members still live in the N.Y.C. Tri-state area. Photographs of modeling activity from 1939 and 1957 can be seen below along with new photographs showing today's members. Sort of a photographic history showing sixty years of modeling's "good ole' days". Today the Skyscrapers fly in Wawayanda, NY on the Bryton Barron Memorial Flying Field. Fellow Skyscraper member, Andrew Barron purchased this amazing sod farm / flying field and has been kind enough to let us all use it. The field is approximately 800 acres of flat sod and some corn. This is probably the finest free flight flying site in the Northeast.

We are based in South West London and specialise in Vintage and Nostalgia model aircraft flying, particularly free flight but also control line and radio control. Indoor flying is also popular.Contest Director Graham Knight with his Jimmie Allen Yellow Jacket

The "Italian Society of Historical Aeromodelling - SAM Italia chapter 62" is a free non-profit corporation. Its purpose is to offer cultural activities, historical research, participation in the sport of flying vintage models from the beginning of model building till 1956.

"SAM Italia" accepts the fundamental principles of the "Society of Antique Modelers", founded in USA with the purpose of uniting all those fond of building and flying old time models establishing rules for the organization of contests. The idea has spread a lot and SAM is now present in many countries all over the world under the name of "Chapters".

In Italy this corporation was founded and officially recognized as "Chapter 62" in June 1986. Counting old and new members the present total is about 400 aeromodellers. "SAM Italia" organizes many national and regional meetings and contests. The contests of vintage models, both free flight and radio controlled, are regulated by simple rules making the same interesting both for the competitors and spectators. There is no desire to advance the state of art of aeromodelling nor experiment or develop new technologies or solutions which are already part of aeromodelling history, but the purpose is to increase the participation of all modelers in order to preserve this precious knowledge.
